Manufacturing

Built, no customer yet

Name the material lot behind a bad batch.

For makers who work from a BOM (bill of material: the recipe of parts) and send work out on job-work challans. When a buyer rejects a batch, you can name the material lot inside it. ITC-04 figures come from the same challans. Works next to Tally.

Where this stands

Built, no customer yet. No plant runs this pack. Ordence runs at eight businesses (five on an industry pack and three on the core system), none on this one. The first plant would have its BOMs, routings and job workers set up before the floor relies on it.

The plant, department by department

From purchase order to the batch at the gate.

  1. Purchase and receipt

Goods are received on a GRN (goods receipt note), and the supplier's bill is matched to order and receipt. For a micro or small supplier registered on Udyam, the 45-day clock runs from acceptance, and the bill is flagged before time runs out.

  2. Planning

Work orders from the BOM, with routings (the steps) and work centres. Material planning says what to make and buy; where-used shows every product a material goes into.

  3. Stores

Material issued to the work order from labelled bins, scanned on any phone. Material on QC (quality check) hold cannot be issued.

  4. Shop floor

Each work order's progress, centre by centre, so you see where half-made goods sit. Scrap is allowed for in the BOM and counted per order.

  5. Job work

What went out on challan, what came back, what each job worker still holds. A warning before inputs near one year away, or capital goods three.

  6. Quality

Checks on arrival, during and at the end. A lot that fails a critical check is rejected; a lot with no results is never treated as a pass.

  7. Costing

Material, labour, overhead and job work per order, with planned cost against actual.

  8. Dispatch and accounts

GST invoices, e-way bill files, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B figures, supplier bills matched to GSTR-2B. Books exported for Tally.

What a manufacturer gets first

What plant owners ask about first.

  • Bill of material and routing. The base every work order is built on.
  • Batch genealogy. A batch's family tree: its work order and material lots. A recall lists every buyer who got it.
  • Job workers, challan by challan. One record feeds both the balance and ITC-04.
  • QC hold that holds. Material on hold cannot be issued to a work order. A rejected lot stays rejected.
  • Standard against actual. What each batch should have cost, next to what it did.

What it means: on a bad batch, you name the material lot behind it, and every other buyer of batches from that lot.

GST for manufacturing

A plant's GST duties, and what Ordence does.

  • What GST asks of you

Goods sent for job work must come back within one year for inputs, three years for capital goods. Otherwise the removal counts as a supply. Moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures are outside the limit.

ITC-04 return for goods at job workers: twice a year if last year's turnover was above ₹5 crore, else once.

Sending to a job worker in another state needs an e-way bill at any value.

Job-work services are 18% for most goods since 22 September 2025, and 5% for some, such as textiles, food and medicines.

Metal scrap bought from an unregistered seller is under reverse charge. Between registered businesses, the buyer deducts 2% GST TDS on supplies above ₹2.5 lakh, since 10 October 2024.

Once turnover has passed ₹5 crore in any year since 2017-18, every business invoice needs an IRN (e-invoice) before it is issued. At ₹10 crore or more, report it within 30 days.

If you sell at 5% and buy at 18%, the extra credit on input goods can be refunded (inverted duty). Credit on services and machinery is not part of it.

  • What Ordence does

Job-work challans, and what each job worker still holds.

A warning before inputs reach one year, or capital goods three years, at a job worker.

ITC-04 figures from the same challans, half-yearly or yearly as your turnover requires.

GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B figures, GSTR-2B matched, e-way bill files ready. The IRN is made on the portal and typed back against the invoice.

Input tax credit is checked line by line on every purchase bill, by HSN and date, with blocked credits under section 17(5) flagged and kept out of your claim. Credit not yet in GSTR-2B is held back.

Reverse charge on purchases recorded and carried into GSTR-3B. Check the split before filing: the figures show it all as IGST.

Ordence prepares the return data, ITC-04 included; you or your CA file it on the portal.

GST rules last checked 16 October 2026, against CBIC notifications and GSTN advisories. Rates and limits change. Confirm how they apply to you with your CA.

In every Ordence system as well

Three shared parts. The full list is on the industries page.

  • Roles for the floor. Store keeper, QC and accounts each get one of eight roles. Every change is logged.
  • A scanner in the stores. The phone app scans bin and batch labels on the way in and out.
  • Payables in order. What you owe suppliers and job workers, by date, plus reminders on what customers owe you.

What it does not do

  • GST returns, ITC-04 and e-way bills are prepared, not filed. It has no IRP connection; the IRN is made on the portal.
  • It leaves Tally's ledgers alone: none created, none deleted. Entries travel by file or the optional connector.
  • It is not built for plants needing machine terminals and OEE (machine efficiency tracking). Other products fit better.
  • It holds no security certification today.

Questions

What plant owners ask first.

Does Ordence prepare the ITC-04 return?

It prepares the figures from your challans, for the half-year or year your turnover requires. You or your CA file them.

Can material on QC hold be issued by mistake?

No. Held material cannot be issued to a work order.

A customer reports a bad batch. What can we see?

Its work order and material lots, and every other buyer of batches made from those lots.

We manufacture and also trade. Is that covered?

Yes. All packs share one stock, sales and GST base. When you apply, pick the side that is most of your work.

Is anyone running the manufacturing pack today?

Not yet. You would be the first plant on it.

Bring one bill of material and the challans still open.

From the unreturned challans we show what Ordence would tell you about each job worker, and whether your plant fits.
